Lesson learnt today: Don't swim in the ocean with your glasses.
Weekend Activities: Run around the small city of St. Augustine, till late.
My wish: I wish that I could go to JFK Space Center.
It is just after dusk here on the seaside resort town of St. Augustine. Rumblings of thunder can be heard in the distance, and the sky is filled with dark cumulonimbus clouds, pregnant with rain. In the distance, the siren of an ambulance can be heard, though it is mingled with the laughter of kids playing on the street nearby, who await the arrival of the rain eagerly. On the western side of the town, signs are that it has already started raining there. And in his room, Trymore settles in for a long night of reading, writing and cogitation. Outside his window, he can spy two girls amble by, who seem oblivious of the impending thunderstorm.
The day was filled with a lot of adventures of sorts.
"They usually bite, but today there is nothing. It must be this warm water that has driven the fish away," lamented Joshua as he tried his lucky fishing on Atlantic Beach, in the heart of the city of Jacksonville. To Trymore, Joshua looked like a classic middle-class guy what with: a medium, protruding belly, a gray hat to shield him from the fierce sun, and his fishing pole. "Well, just like any place, some parts of Miami are bad, while other are not," he said on hearing Trymore's dilemma of either going up north right away or going south for a bit. On the same not, Trymore was happy to be finally at the beach, he went there right in the mid morning. It was nice, and there were few people. There was lots of parking space available.
"Are you okay man?' asked Rich, after a huge wave had crushed onto Trymore. The wave, unfortunately, took his glasses away, and he never found them. But, since his mama had told him to travel with two pairs of glasses, he is okay for now. Rich was middle-aged guy, with a scruffy beard. We watched from a distance as Trymore paused for pictures with some hot blonde girl, who said to Trymore "I'm Ashley, I would love to have a picture taken with you in it." (for pictures and such, follow that link I gave you the other day: http://tmacvivo.blogspot.com ) Rich, was quiet man, and he confessed to Trymore that there was really nothing to do in the city, apart from going to clubs. Trymore commented that he liked the city at night, the blue lights on the bridges the night before had been really awesome!!!
Beach Culture. It seems like everybody loves to go to the beach. When he was there, Trymore kept thinking that somewhere somebody would scream "Shark!" Fortunately, that never happened. He did speak to a beach lifeguard (we will call her Emma B coz she refused to tell Trymore her name!) who said that "it takes 15 weeks to train to be a life-guard on this beach." With the sound of the waves in the background, she couldn't open up to Trymore coz she thought that he was pursuing her! Down the beach, a guy beach-life-guard was more welcoming, and Trymore stayed with him for a bit.
I left Jacksonville in the afternoon, and got to St. Augustine at 5pm, although my watch showed 4pm! I forgot that I was now in a different time zone! The small city, is the oldest town in north America. Well, I will say more about the town sights and sound in an email later tomorrow. For now, let me try to rest. I have been walking the town all afternoon and I'm really tired. Tomorrow, I'm off to the Lighthouse and beyond. Hopefully, when I wake up, I will have finalized on whether to go south (and see JFK Space Center) or just go north...
